About the Project

Ethereal is DeFi’s next major trading protocol and the first built on Ethena. The architecture combines an offchain orderbook with onchain settlement, powered by USDe collateral and an optimised smart contract layer.

This is a rare opportunity to join a world-class DeFi team, at the start of something big.

This is a ground-up protocol design focused on performance, security, and composability. You’ll be solving deep, complex challenges around state, margin, liquidation, execution, and capital efficiency at scale.

Note: This is a remote team who work within AEST, strong preference for AU/NZ location, but all applications must be from timezones within GMT +7 and GMT+13.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Smart Contracts Engineer to build, optimise, and maintain smart contracts powering a new class of decentralised trading infrastructure.

You’ll work closely with protocol, backend, and frontend engineers to deliver secure, gas-efficient systems across custody, margin, liquidation, and settlement flows.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Writing and optimising Solidity contracts for core trading, margin, liquidation, and accounting logic
• Designing efficient state transitions and gas-optimised execution paths
• Collaborating on architectural decisions across onchain and offchain flows
• Smart contract deployment/management

What We’re Looking For

• Deep experience writing Solidity contracts in a DeFi context
• Strong understanding of EVM internals, contract design patterns, and gas optimisation
• Experience building production-grade smart contracts, ideally involving trading or margin systems
• Ability to reason about on-chain state, precision maths, and security vulnerabilities (e.g. reentrancy, MEV)
• Bonus: Familiarity with Foundry, Hardhat, zk concepts, or offchain integration tooling
